"Song of the Underground Railroad" has always been my favourite Coltrane track; & 'Africa Brass' one of my favourite discs!

Thank you, Robert!

Fantastic deep dive into Tyner's Impulse catalog. The way Art Davis goes outside the harmony on 'Effendi' but still keeps the form intact is such a precursor to how rhythm sections woudl reimagine their roles in teh 60s. I remember hearing that track for the first time and thinking he was breaking the tune apart, only to realize he was actually making the structure even clearer.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, Davis' solo on 'Effendi' was one of the things, if I'm recalling right, that really stood out for me when I bought 'Inception.'

"Equinox" was the first Coltrane song that I ever heard. It was the late Nick Brignola with Elvin Jones playing at SUNY Albany in the late 1960's.

That's maybe the best way to be introduced to the music!

Thanks John Sheehy for restacking! Thanks Robert for all of this ✨ every word and song from a dark, snowy, bitterly cold Indiana on a Sunday night in grief and snow shoveling exhaustion. Thank you fellas for all the notes...exploration...a way to live...be. Thank you jazz and freedom. ✨🎶 Ready to sleep then get up and do it again. Have a week all!!
