An absolutely stunning concert! When your essay hit my inbox a few days ago, I set it aside till I was able to give it the time and attention it deserves. Glad I did because it was well worth the wait. You’ve produced an excellent essay that rises to the occasion. What else can I say but —YEAH!!
Had Miles started performing with his back to the audience then, or was that only something he did after he returned to live performing in the late '70s after quitting earlier in the decade?
I'm not sure, to be honest. Certainly the photo on the cover of 'My Funny Valentine' seeks to invoke the image of Miles as the surliest of surly genius. Iconic really.
That must have been some week in NYC in February 1964! Have you ever read "Miles" , his auto biography? Great read. Lots of profanity.
Oh to have been there! Exciting probably doesn't even begin to describe it.
I read Miles' autobiography way back and enjoyed it though I don't recall much of it now other than, as you mentioned, the salty language.

Oh wow - thanks so much. I'm glad I did the music justice because it is some of the best Miles ever made.
Thanks for the ballads. Wonderful. MI
