As a native New Yorker and musician your piece is excellent. There is no place like New York for live music at any time, any day of the week, especially Jazz. Your writing has made me homesick. I’ve been living in Philadelphia 21 years now. Glad to know live music is still alive and well in NYC considering all the city is going through since the pandemic.
Oh to have the time and money to go back to NYC for the music shows and entertainment. It used to feel like there were more options in a weekend, than we get in New Zealand in a year.
Absolutely true. When I was there on business I used to tack on a few days for shows and concerts. Not cheap, but getting there from New Zealand was such that you couldn't afford to go for a week if you had to go for yourself.
I forgot to mention the heart breaking loss of the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series. I am a Yankee fan and have always disliked the Dodgers. I think there are still people in Brooklyn who dislike them for their move to LA.
Funny you should mention that. When I took in a taping of 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,' I was one of the people the warm-up comedian singled out. After telling him I'm from Toronto, he mentioned what happened to the Jays and when I mentioned, that it actually worked out for me (I was rooting for the Dodgers - among other things, my dad is life-long fan of the team), I got lustily booed.
Sounds like you had some great listening. I bet many of your younger readers might not get the Corinthian leather reference. However, instead of wondering about it they would probably type it into the search bar.
Sounds like a great trip! I must get to New York sometime.
By the way, I think you've accidentally written "Hildegard von Bargen" for "Hildegard von Bingen".
Thanks, William. Another essay, another typo now corrected! I think you would enjoy NYC immensely.

Thank you for the very kind comment. I tried to show how being in New York makes me feel and how exciting it always is to be there.

As I saw in an advertisement at Grand Central, when in New York, you don't need to travel the world, the world can be found in NYC.

Ha!

Good point - I added a hyperlink to one of the commercials Ricardo Montalban made extolling the virtues of fine, Corinthian leather.
