Excellent question. Hard to say regarding punk. For hip hop, I think Nelson George and Harmony Holiday are writers whose Substacks are worth subscribing too.
I'm going to throw this question out on Notes and see what others say. Stay tuned!
Thanks for this rich selection of new and upcoming titles, Robert. Several artists in this post are entirely new to me. I enjoyed getting to know them through this excellent post and the links you’ve included.
You're welcome, Andrew - these round-ups are super fun to put together. There's so much good, new stuff out there and I admire those who give it a shot and put so much heart and soul into what they do.
Thanks so much for the kind mention here, my friend! These days I am leaning heavily on my own recommendations for finding new music and between keeping up with the new releases every week and the discoveries I'm making outside of those, I'm having trouble keeping up! There's simply too much good music! (Kidding, of course. There can never be too much good music. That's not possible.)
Anytime - glad to give a little more juice to your great piece.
There's so much good, new stuff out there - it's hard to stay on top of it all but trying. I really appreciate the hard work of the publicists whose lists I am on - they do such an important job of spreading the word.
Thanks, man. I appreciate you. And yeah, when it comes to music I quite like the feeling of drinking from the firehose. With anything else not so much. But music I can do. I’m on the mailing list of a few publicists (I’ve seen some great shows for free thanks to them) but I need to get on some additional PR lists.
There is a program "Klassik-Pop-et cetera" on Deutschlandfunk that I have been listening to for decades now. Celebrities are allowed to do their own radio show for just an hour. Last Saturday, I got to know Johanna Summer in this program, a great jazz pianist. Here is a link to one of her latest songs on YouTube and, for those who speak German, to her show:

Me too - I am happy to OD on new music - my curiosity is endless.
