Reading this wonderful essay and listening to the selections is like kicking back with a glass of vintage port, a plate of stilton cheese within reach. A treat to savor. Such good writing and informed perspectives. A delight!
You say you "can’t come up with a more direct example of how one artist so profoundly affected another than what occurred between Ahmad Jamal and Miles Davis" -- I know it's not quite the same, but how about Jimi Hendrix's affect on Stevie Ray Vaughan?
And well done for using the word "cosy"! (Can I persuade you to use the English spelling?)
Certainly that would be a good example but, as you say, not quite the same. What I was trying to think of is another example in which one artist affects one another while both are making art and in which the artist who is inspired by another makes art in which the line of influence is both crystal clear yet not derivative in any way.
I'll probably stick with cozy for the meantime yet as someone of English stock, I am known for using British pronunciations so perhaps I can meet you halfway on this one.

Such kind words and all deeply appreciated. Many thanks (thank you also for the kind recommendation) - I'm a big fan as well of your Substack.
Thanks for your informed prose and respite from the news.
Great stuff as always!

Another great "Listening Sessions"! Always a pleasure to read and think about the great artiststhat we have lost, but their music remains with us.
Thanks for the kind words - your sentiment on how the artists we've recently lost endure is well put.
