Thanks for covering so many female artists, Robert. As I'm constructing a spreadsheet of women in rock and related genres and don't know a lot of the newer artists, it's much appreciated.

Your review of new music releases is always worth waiting for, Robert. And this one is no exception. I enjoyed all the selections today and would be hard pressed to choose a favorite. Thanks for sifting through the haystack and sharing these gems with us.

Very well done. I hadn't realized that Bill Black wasn't on any of Elvis' post Army recordings. I appreciate Hank Garland's guitar playing on these records, it's more muscular than Scotty Moore's, but I do like Scotty's subtle, playful licks as well.

Thank you, Peter. Bill Black's last sessions with Elvis were in 1958. Garland was intimidatingly good. Moore didn't entirely fade away from lead. I'm fairly certain that it's Moore in front on 'Such a Night' and perhaps others but hard to say.

Also, your comment about "It Hurts Me" being a precursor to Elvis' singing approach in the '68 special is spot on. "It Hurts Me" is a great single and it seems like it was almost a first draft of "If I Can Dream"--Elvis vocal is very similar, but the intensity on "If I Can Dream" is really kicked up, of course. Thanks for a great post!

That's true, and something I hadn't thought of before you mentioned it. The structures of 'It Hurts Me' and 'If I Can Dream' are somewhat similar.

I sat down and listened to the new Haim album a couple of weeks ago after hearing the song “Gone” linked in a newsletter. I absolutely enjoyed it and went and purchased it on vinyl.
