This was a fantastic essay and I appreciate the introduction to Frankie Laine. Looking forward to spending the day with Torchin tomorrow. You’re right about it being great autumn music!!

Thanks for highlighting these underappreciated singers! I should say, though, that 'Roses of Picardy' is on Spotify.

Thank you, William. Nice detective work - here's hoping that all of the album with Buck Clayton will be more easily available at some point.

Two superb albums by two great artists in a superbly written stroll into music’s legendary past. I especially enjoyed seeing Anita O’Day at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival again. A real treat.

The footage of O'Day at Newport is mesmerizing. Thanks for the kind words and glad you liked the essay.

Thanks for another fine duo of articles on two great singers. My uncle was a big Frankie Laine fan and I remember him singing along when "Rawhide" came on. Perhaps he knew that Frankie Laine was of Sicilian descent. I did not at the time. For some reason or another, I never listened to neither singer much. Maybe it is time to rectify that.

Both are definitely under-the-radar these days. Anything O'Day did is worth checking out - Laine is more hit-and-miss, but the albums I highlight are superb.

Thanks much.
